If you want to see all there is to see in Historic Lancaster, you will simply
have to stay more than one day. If you want to extend your historic experience
into the night hours, one place stands out from all the others - Shaw's
Restaurant and Inn. The venerable Shaw's Inn is located in the center of
Lancaster's Historic District adjacent to Zane Square. George Washington didn't
sleep here, but this landmark Inn has been host to the likes of Henry Clay and
Daniel Webster. Clay and Webster did not have the amenities that the modern-day
traveler enjoys, though. For example, many of the rooms at Shaw's have been
recently renovated into luxurious and unique "themed" suites which include large
whirlpool tubs. Full room service is available, or you can visit the dining room
for an elegant meal. Then, catch up on the "talk of the town" in Cork's Bar on
the first floor of the Inn. Cork's Bar has an extensive selection of wines,
cognacs, and single-malt scotches. In the spirit of a true inn, a full breakfast
in the restaurant is included with your night's stay.
More accommodations are available approximately one mile from the Historic
District, in the newer River Valley Mall and Restaurant section of town. And
just 20 minutes south of Historic Lancaster, lie the scenic Hocking Hills. This
rural, wooded region features hundreds of private cabins and cottages that are
available for rental year-round.
